Regulations for Reservists Students

 

A student who receives a summons to reserve duty for a period exceeding 14 days shall notify the Student Administration of their departure for reserve duty, at least 14 days prior to departure and will need to present their summons. The student will need to notify of any special occurrences in which they think they will need assistance.

Written Assignments
• Active reserve service at the time of submission of the work.
• Active reserve service of at least five consecutive days (Sunday - Thursday) when the assignment date occurred less than four working days after the date of release from active duty.
Student Administration will send permission to the relevant faculty members. The primary teacher of the course shall, at their discretion:
• Allow the student to submit the work late, the date determined by the instructor.
• Allow the student to submit alternative work, the date determined by the instructor.
• Determine that the work shall not be taken into account in calculating the course grade and course work grade will be weighted on the basis of other work submitted by the student.

Current Exercises
A student who served in the reserves for a period exceeding one week and missed, as a result, two or more consecutive classes, will be able to submit a reduced number of exercises in accordance to days missed due to reserve duty or he will be able to submit the exercise at a later date.

Meeting Academic Requirements of the Course as a Condition to take the Exam
For classes or recitations where attendance is individually checked, active reserve duty is a justifiable reason for the absence.

Quizzes (better score)
A student who is absent from a quiz worth final grade points due to reserve service of over five days will receive a full grade automatically for that quiz.
A student who is absent from a quiz worth final grade points, due to reserve service of less than five days, will not have their grade negatively affected. The lecturer in entitled to choose the way they see fit to handle the grade points, as long as the student does not have their grade unfairly negatively affected by it.

Seminars
Lecturer can determine mandatory presence in seminars, excluding students in active reserve duty.


Motion to Postpone / Shorten Service (Applying to the Committee for the Coordination of Reserves [CCR])
A student who wishes to submit a request to postpone / shorten reserve service shall submit the request to the CCR through Shir Pe’er, manager of the dean of students’ office. Submission of the application and required forms will according to CCR procedures: At least six days and no later than 30 days prior to the date of the reserve service.

End of Semester Exams
Those who served 14 consecutive days or 21 or more cumulative days during exam time is eligible for another exam term even if it is to improve a test score, but this is only if the original Active Reserve Service (shamap) notice is presented. The student denied allowance to take the exam at the time of Exam Term A or B due to reserve duty may improve a positive test score on a special date, if this date is already set to occur. If this special test date does not occur, the student will be allowed to improve a positive test score on a date to be held near the end of the semester.
Anyone who served four days or more during the exam term or two weeks before then is eligible for additional testing time; each exam will take place within a few days from the end of his service through the following formula: number of days of reserve duty multiplied by 0.8, and as long as the test in question was not already conducted by the reservist.
A student who served in the reserves for at least 40 days during the semester will be entitled to take the exam two out of three times A, B or nearest date to be held then by choice.

A Special Date
Special time will be held for an exam when a student is absent from a regular exam and failed the course at another exam, or was absent from either exam terms, in accordance with the following reasons:
• Reserve duty at the time of the exam.
• Reserve service of at least five consecutive days (Sunday - Thursday) when the test date occurred less than 4 days after the release date from reserves.

Absence from a Prerequisite Course Exam
A student absent from a prerequisite course exam due to reserve duty, and the course is needed to advance to the next year, is entitled to study under "conditional" terms in the advanced course.
Student forced, due to reserve duty, to stop his studies in the prerequisite course for the advanced course is entitled to study under “conditional” terms in the advanced course.
Permission to study under “conditional” terms is contingent upon the academic requirements for the advanced course.

Recognition of Reserve Service as a Social Activity that Entitles Two Credits
Students, in their undergraduate studies, who served in the reserves for 10 days or more (not necessarily continuous service) during the academic year, can be recognized as a social activity that entitles two points. To receive the two credit points, one must submit an original copy of the Active Reserve Service (shamap) notice to the Student Secretary.

Help in Completing the Educational Course Content
After reserve service the student may contact the professor of the course to request help in completing the study material missed during service.

Tutoring
After reserve service the student is eligible to receive training, mentoring or tutoring in order to complete the study material missed during service, which will be provided by the Student Union.

Coupons for Printing
A student who served in the reserves is eligible for Student Union printing stamps for each lecture hour for which they will not be present due to reserve duty and as long as the lecture material is not listed on the course website. The printing card produces 50 pages of printed paper and will be given for every five days of reserve service.

Renting Books from the Library
A student who served in the reserves will receive priority on renting books from the library, in the period of time closest to the return from reserve service. The student can also borrow books beyond the usual quota of the amount of books you can borrow.

Exemption from Additional Tuition Fees
A student who served in the reserves for 14 days or more during the semester, and therefore stopped his course and had to re-register for the course, will not be charged additional tuition. For this purpose the student may inform the Student Administration to stop his course up to one week before the exam.

Course Registration
Reserve service will not harm the registration to courses. A student shall notify the Student Administration, before leaving for reserve service, on their application for registration to various courses. Student Administration will register for the student going to reserves at the time of registration. Student Administration will keep a number of places available to students in the reserves.
The Dean of Students will serve as the Ombudsman to the student in reserves. A student who served in the reserves has the right to contact the Dean of Students (through the Student Manager) if he thought his business was not treated properly.

Renting Netstick’s
A student who will be in reserve service for seven days or more is eligible to apply to rent an internet netstick from the Reserve Coordinator up to two weeks before departure to reserve duty.
To receive the netstick, the student must present their reserve duty reading order (“tzav kriya”) to the Student Union. The rental fee is 3 shekel per day, and the deposit to the Student Union of 350 shekel through a credit card. Late returns of the netstick will result in a 40 shekel fine.
