Arnona
How to get a discount on your Arnona: For students in the school year of 2012:
A student who is learning fulltime and therefore cannot work, or one who is unable to work, is allowed to request a discount on “Arnona” (property tax). This discount will apply if certain conditions are met.
These are the main conditions that a student should have to request this discount:
1. A signed recognition of the student’s enrollment in college.
2. A signed recognition of the student’s tuition payments.
3. An official or signed timetable of the student’s weekly schedule of classes.
4. The Students working apartments contract for that year.
5. The students last 3 paychecks-
a. If a student receives money from his/her parents, he/she will need a signed letter from the parents.
6. A student who receives scholarships, must bring a copy of the scholarship.
7. Students, who cannot work, should bring unemployment papers from an unemployment office.
8. An approval that the student is not previously receiving a discount on the Arnona payment, or a confirmation that the student does not receive a reduction on taxes due to this apartment
9. Printed statement of the last 3 months bank transactions.
• With all this information, you can fill out the request for a reduction on Arnona for the town hall.
• If the apartment is shared totally by students, then it is requested that all the students apply at the same time for the discount.
• This discount DOES work retroactively from the beginning of the contract (but needs to be renewed each year [i.e from when you start until Dec., and then again from January 2013])
How the discount works:
There is a calculation made on current income based on the bank account activity over the past 3 months, income, and/or parents help, and subtracted by the monthly cost of tuition averaged for the past 3 months. This is considered your average monthly income.
Use this chart to help you estimate your discount:
Some tips:
If you had a higher paying job over the summer, wait until 3 months into the school year to lower your average monthly income number.
If all the students in the apartment will have a close monthly averade income, you should submit it together. However, if there is a big difference in income, then it is recommended to submit a request separately.
